I was born in Houston, TX, and did my undergraduate training there at Rice University (2006-2010) in bioengineering, doing research as a Goldwater Scholar in viral nanoparticle engineering under Dr. Junghae Suh. During PhD training in biomedical engineering at Cornell University (2010-2014) as a joint NSF and Hertz Foundation fellow under Dr. David Putnam, I decided to more directly merge my research interest in materials-based immunobioengineering with patient care, and subsequently pursued medical training in the Harvard-MIT HST program (2014-2018). After finishing my MD and associated research in aging epigenomics with Dr. David Sinclair, I stayed for residency in neurology at the Harvard/MGH/BWH program (2018-2022), receiving ABPN diplomate status in 2022. Currently, I am a vascular neurology fellow at Harvard Medical School and MGH/BWH, and will subsequently be pursing fellowship in neuroendovascular surgery. My current research interests are in developing drug eluting stents for multimodal treatment of recurrent strokes in patients with intracranial atherosclerosis disease, with a particular focus on polymeric stent engineering and in vitro flow models for testing immunomodulatory and metabolic/epigenetic reprogramming approaches to post-stroke neuroprotection and neurorecovery. I am privileged to be in the Edelman Lab as a visiting scientist at MIT via an NIH/NINDS R25 training grant to pursue these interests. Outside of lab and clinical duties, I enjoy spending time with my wife Melisa and our son Nathan, as well as skiing when it’s cold, hiking when it’s warm, and playing video games whenever.
